Spidergal

K went to her friend's 5th birthday party on the weekend dressed as her superhero of choice.

Spidergal likes to hang upside down.

And swing from building to building.

She joined some fellow superheros to plan their next move.

Spidergal's pants were a bit long - hopefully she will grow into them.

K's best Spidergal face.

Climbing skills were practised all afternoon.

Two Spidergal's are always better than one.

Did you know there might be clues here?

Although the water was cold, K didn't mind squirting the other children.

And throwing water bombs at the bad guy.

Thank you L for a great party and an afternoon of fun. K enjoyed dressing up and exploring the Superhero theme. She doesn't know much about Spiderman, other than seeing his picture on various kids' merchandise such as toothpaste. I'd like to find some Superman and Superhero books so that K can learn some more about this genre and expand her imaginative play.

Show Time

Thank you Nana for taking K to your little country Show. K clearly enjoyed herself and it is experiences like this that help to build her confidence, courage and memories that she can expand upon at another time

A reward for climbing the ladder is always the fun slide down to the bottom again.

The Gymbus is like an indoor playground with pole for swinging and sliding and other equipment to encourage physical activity. K really enjoyed this.

Her favourite activity of course was the trampoline. K loves to swing and bounce high whenever she has the opportunity.

I'm fine Nana. I'm ready to jump.

The springy harness makes it easier to jump high and land softly.

K has previously on two occasions, had the opportunity to hold/touch a snake. She builds on this by showing confidence in holding this large reptile.

She watches it intently as it curls and moves in her arms.

This one looks cute and is easier for her to hold by herself.

I think she loses some confidence as the snake begins to wriggle and wrap itself around her arms.

Pedal cars provide another opportunity to get physical.

Of course, what Show is complete without a stash of prizes and goodies. Although Nana bought most of these, K was still adamant in telling us that she 'won them'.

Thanks Nana. I know you had a tiring weekend. Hopefully K will join you again next year. You have 364 days to prepare!

Cheese

We discovered a few new photos on Dad's phone the other day that we hadn't seen before.

Thank you K for making Mummy laugh. Finding the above (and many more) was the highlight of my day.

The Jungle

We have been talking about visiting the zoo for some time. We wanted to show K how big an elephant was in real life and provide some context to the pictures she has seen in books and on TV. We made the 3 hour trip this weekend and K was excited to have her big sister join us at 'the jungle',

We started the day early, leaving home at 6.30am. By 10.30 we were at the zoo, prepared for some walking ahead of us.

We headed early to the African Savannah which was a good move by S. We were able to see the largest animals before the crowds got too big.

K enjoyed sitting on the rails when she could to watch the animals. I think she felt a bit closer to them. She enjoyed less those animals behind large fences or barriers.

The morning of our visit K woke up and the first thing she said was, "Are the lions going to eat me?" I hope the zoo visit has given her a bit more of an understanding about zoos in general and how animals are housed / cared for.

This orangutan was K's favourite. It played with a big blue tarp like a superhero's cape. She also hasn't stopped talking about the pink bottoms of the baboons!

Look how tall I am.

Horse rides of any sort are always fun.

And numbat rides.

The playground was small and didn't cope too well with the school holiday crowd.  K waited to climb the small fort in the background up the one ladder. She waited patiently whilst 20 or so other kids pushed in, with shirt fulls of sand, climbing the ladder to pour the sand down a pipe. She copped more than a face full of sand whilst waiting at the bottom of the ladder. When she did get up to the top, she realised she had no chance of getting back down the busy ladder. She took a good look at her options then took a risk at the fireman's pole. She's never been down a pole as big by herself and after a bit of uncertainty hanging from the top (what the heck do I do now), she made it to the bottom - much to Mum's relief.

We didn't get around to seeing everything during the day. Mum was unwell and by early afternoon, we were ready to call it quits. I'm happy though that we made it to our first zoo experience, and one that we can build upon over the years to come. Thanks big Sis for making the day fun and so much easier for all of us. K loves spending time with you and you are a great role model in her life.
